Pamela Sue Fortner Deboer
Many of you who have called into our office have talked with Pam Deboer. After a sudden illness and complicating health issues, God unexpectedly called Pam to her heavenly home on October 12, 2009 at the age of 35.
Immediate survivors include her husband, Randy, to whom she was united in marriage January 20, 2007; daughter, Mariah Fortner (11), and step-children Jacob, (11), and Sara Deboer (9). Pam first came to the Human Resources department of the Free Methodist World Ministries Center as a volunteer in 1990, the summer before her junior year of high school. We were very impressed with how she worked. We said, "Maybe someday you will come back and work with us again as an employee."
Well ten years later, in June 2001, she was hired as Human Resources Assistant to Willadean Duncan, director of Human Resources. When reviewing her resume, in amazement, it looked as if God had prepared her from the time she left as a volunteer to the time she came to the department with a variety of experience that made her an excellent fit for the position. Her primary responsibilities involved working with the denominational pension plan. Her talents in the area of computer and data management, graphics, composition, along with her excellent attention to detail and communication skills have been a great support to the department and those we serve. Pam talked with a variety of people on the phone from retirees, to superintendents and pastors and WMC staff. She was known as someone who had a sincere desire to help each person and support the department in whatever was needed. With Christ in her heart, her compassion and kindness stood out towards the needs of others.
Our department will not only miss the talents she shared, but also a dear friend and co-worker. We are appreciative for the contribution and support that she provided in the eight years of service to the work of the Free Methodist Church.
